ONDC Onboards Over 7 Lakh Service Providers So Far
New Delhi: The government revealed on Thursday that more than seven lakh sellers and service providers have joined the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform.
ONDC, a government-backed initiative launched in 2021, was designed to make digital commerce more accessible to smaller businesses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised ONDC for its role in empowering small businesses and reshaping the e-commerce industry.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, in a post on X, shared that over the past three years, ONDC has supported small enterprises by creating an equal opportunity environment within the network.
The platform aims to promote an open ecosystem for all e-commerce retail activities. It helps small retailers expand their reach through digital channels and reduces the market dominance of larger corporations.
As a non-profit organization, ONDC has established a set of voluntary standards for adoption by sellers, logistics providers, and payment gateway operators.
In response to Goyal’s post, Modi commented, "ONDC has empowered small businesses and transformed e-commerce, thus playing a crucial role in driving growth and prosperity."
To date, ONDC has facilitated over 150 million transactions and includes more than 200 participants in its network.
